Winter is a beautiful season that brings with it a unique charm and ambiance. It's the time of year when we want to get cosy at home and enjoy the warmth and comfort of our surroundings. Decorating your home for winter can be a fun and creative way to bring some of that warmth and cosiness indoors. In this blog, I will share some tips and ideas on how to style your home for winter.
This season is about bringing out rich tones, colours, textures, and patterns. We add layers of clothing on our bodies, during this season, so why not layer our spaces too?
1. Add Warm Textures
One of the easiest ways to add warmth to your home is by incorporating warm textures into your décor. Think about adding soft, fuzzy blankets, plush rugs, and fluffy pillows. These will create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that you and your guests will love. Add textured fabrics like cushions, and if you are adding different fabrics to each space, try and lean towards warmer tones. Incorporating organic and natural fabrics such as wool gives a lovely cosy feel or select velvets for a richer, more glamorous, luxurious feel.

2. Use Winter Colours
Winter is the perfect time to bring some deep, rich colours into your home. Think about using colours like deep reds, greens, and blues, or even metallics like gold and silver. These colours will add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your décor, while also creating a warm and inviting ambiance.
3. Add Winter Accents

Adding winter accents is a great way to incorporate the season into your home décor. Consider adding pine cones, evergreen branches, and winter berries to your décor. These accents will not only add a touch of winter to your home, but they will also bring a natural element that is always beautiful.
4. Use Candles
Candles are a great way to add warmth and ambience to any room. They create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for winter. Consider using scented candles that bring in the scents of the season, such as cinnamon, pine, and peppermint.
5. Add Light
Winter can be a dark and dreary season, so it's important to bring in as much light as possible to achieve a sense of calm and warmth. Consider adding extra lamps, string lights, or even candles to brighten up your home. This will not only add warmth and cosiness, but it will also create a more inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Lampshades are an effective way of introducing more lighting and colour into spaces. A floor lamp tucked near a reading nook, with gathered fabric on the shade, will give a beautiful soft glow of light.
6. Use Winter Textiles
Winter textiles, such as wool and flannel, are perfect for creating a cosy and warm atmosphere. Consider using wool blankets, flannel sheets, or even a furry rug. These textiles will add a touch of luxury to your home décor, while also keeping you warm and comfortable.

7. Create a Cosy Nook
Creating a cosy nook is the perfect way to enjoy the warmth and comfort of your home during the winter months. Consider adding a comfortable chair or loveseat, a warm blanket, and some pillows. This will create a cosy and inviting space that is perfect for reading, relaxing, or just enjoying some quiet time.

8. Add Winter Scents
Adding winter scents to your home is a great way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Consider using essential oils, such as peppermint, cinnamon, or pine, or even simmering a pot of spices on the stove. These scents will not only smell amazing, but they will also create a cosy and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for winter.
So how do you then cosy up the different rooms in your home?
Kitchen
Plants have a way of bringing life into a space. This is also true when it comes to them adding cosiness. Bring in more plants and dried flowers to add colour too. You can also a few Rattan pendants which give the kitchen an earthy and warm feel. Personalize the kitchen with some vintage items, family pictures, etc. Wood finishes and tones bring much-needed warmth. This can be achieved with accessories like spoons and bowls which you can display as well. If your kitchen is long enough a runner rug will certainly do the trick. Place cushions on chairs, that bring in the texture and layering effect. Earthy crockery looks good on the table, i.e., stone plates, and charcoal-coloured plates.
Create a coffee station where you can brew your coffee throughout the day. Bake some bread…

Living room
Every sofa or armchair in the living room deserves its throw, how cosy is that? Throw in a few furry accent cushions, to add depth and texture. Cushions also give a sense of additional comfort. Display and light candles on the coffee table as a vignette and some on the console table if you have an entrance area to the house. These give a sense of warmth, create a beautiful ambience and if scented, they will make your home smell heavenly.
Lanterns are great in the living room and patio. They give a room attractive patterns as they glow. Floor lamps and table lamps are good for the warm snuggling movie night. An oversized rug for the room should be a base already, then double-up with another rug on top to make the room warmer and cosier. Accessorize the room with a few rustic frames and small plants like succulents. Lastly, if you have a fireplace, make sure you stock up on the wood, it is the ultimate feature to bring in for that warm cosy touch.
Bathroom
Seasonal thick and fluffy soft towels
Candles
Warm bathmats give a nice soft step.
Hang up some gowns.
Use warm LED lights.
Make sure that the cracks around the window have been sealed.

Bedroom
In winter, a bedroom should be more inviting and sumptuous, so warm and moody tones like charcoals, indigos and burgundy will be best mixed with the usual neutrals. The greys and charcoals will ground the room. Bright colours should be as minimal as possible. It’s important to layer the bed with lots of pillows and cushions. As mentioned above, a throw and maybe a quilt will cosy up the bed. Don’t be scared of adding these accessories. An electric blanket or a hot water bottle wouldn’t be such a bad idea to add to your bed.
Warm textured rugs are key, especially around the bed will do the trick. Bedside moody lamps add more ambience to the bedroom than general lighting. Most importantly remember to swap the summer sheets with the warm cotton ones. If budget allows, you can change the sheer curtains to thicker curtains.

Our lifestyles naturally change with the seasons, and so should your humble abode. Surround yourself with items that bring you comfort, joy and contentment and embody hygge. Finally, the best way to style your home for winter is to bring ultimate comfort to your home and embrace the season!
